Organize group activities

The group’s management team organizes its events. You can prepare the schedule, invite participants, follow their responses and send them messages, as you would for a personal event.

Start with the group’s event area

Find current and archived events in the group’s management area. Create the event there so the team can manage it together. Creating a personal event does not make it a group event.

Prepare the event’s details, preview the draft and publish when it is ready. A draft is not an invitation for members to participate. The group’s presentation supplies context, but each event still needs its own clear schedule, place or online information and participation conditions.

Use the event creation guide and participation conditions guide for these shared tasks.

Distinguish membership from event access

Members still need to register, request a place or receive an invitation, as required by each event. In a private group, active members can view published or cancelled events, but need an individual invitation to register for an invitation-only event. Someone still waiting to join the group cannot view those events as a member.

You can invite someone who is not a member to a particular event. That invitation does not let them browse the rest of the private group. Location details, notes and attendee names may still be hidden from them, depending on their response and the event’s settings.

You can add group members to an event through its participant-management tools. Review the selected people and the resulting status rather than assuming every member should be invited or marked as attending.

Keep the event up to date

Keep participants informed when details change. Send messages and update responses from the event. The group’s owner chooses who receives its alerts. Once an event has ended or been cancelled, you can archive it to keep it apart from current activities.

A member’s departure does not cancel their valid participation, invitations, requests or waitlist entries. Review any necessary event change independently.
